Embracing innovation with Framer

Just like we're always improving Flow to help you work better, we realized our website needed a makeover too. Our old site mainly focused on Mac users and failed to showcase Flow's availability and features across iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. It mirrored our early days when Flow was exclusive to Mac. So, we decided to start fresh.

With the decision to rebuild our website, we tried to find a platform that could seamlessly translate our vision into reality while offering the flexibility to adapt and evolve alongside our product. Our old website was built using Wordpress, a popular CMS that we had learnt well and used on a wide range of projects, both our own and for clients, throughout the history of our studio.

While Wordpress was great and adaptable to our needs in all circumstances, the platform has its shortcomings in terms of user experience. Plugin and compatibility issues, bad website performance, security vulnerabilities and inflexible themes and page builders were common frustrations. So this time we wanted to try a new, more modern platform that would hopefully solve the problems we had with Wordpress. That's why we switched to Framer, and we're very happy with our decision.

Maximizing efficiency

Efficiency is key in today's fast-paced world. As a small team we understand the importance of maximizing productivity without compromising quality. Framer has been a game-changer in this regard, empowering us to shape our web presence with great creative freedom and precision. Framer offers a user-friendly experience, especially if you're familiar with design tools like Figma or Sketch. What we also found refreshing is the offline workflow. Everything remains offline until you're ready to publish changes to your website, making it incredibly easy to get started, make revisions, and publish updates seamlessly.

Framer has significantly streamlined our workflow. Updating our website with new blog posts or feature announcements is now a seamless process, allowing us to keep pace with Flow's evolution without the technical headaches often associated with traditional platforms like Wordpress. With Framer, we can focus our energy on refining the user experience, knowing that the technical aspects are taken care of.

A new domain

We've also got a new domain now, like you may have noticed. We were never fully satisfied with our old domain flowapp.info. Back when we started with Flow, options and resources were limited, and we had to settle for what was available. So, when the opportunity arose to secure the flow.app domain in early 2023, we jumped on it. It was like finding the perfect home for our brand—a shorter, snappier, more memorable address. Finally, Flow had a domain name that felt just right.

And, speaking of addresses, if you still find yourself typing in the old one, don't worry. We've set up a smooth redirect to make sure you land exactly where you need to be, whether you're seeking support, pricing information, or our privacy policy. And if you need to get in touch, you can now reach out to us at our new email address support@flow.app. While we recommend using the new domain and email addresses, rest assured that we will still receive and respond to messages sent to our old email addresses.

Comment section

Switching to Framer has been a significant transition for us, but one notable drawback is the lack of a built-in comment section. We truly cherished engaging with your feedback and reactions below our blog posts. While we're actively seeking a solution to reintegrate comments, we're committed to finding a simple comment system that aligns with our values. Our aim is to steer clear of overblown, privacy-hostile platforms like Disqus. Perhaps creating our own commenting solution is the next step forward. We'll see.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read today's devblog! We look forward to seeing you in our next post. And as always, if you enjoy using Flow and want to support its development, we'd be grateful for a review on the App Store. Every review is important and helps our tiny developer studio tremendously.

We appreciate you all very much. Cheers!
